Diabete Italia was born in 2005, with the objective of stimulating the Institutions, the Public Opinion, and the Means of Information, so as to improve

• the level of information
• the ability to prevent the illness
• the efficacy of therapeutic interventions

In the field of diabetes Diabete Italia is the common and equal expression of the Scientific Companies and of the Associations among persons with diabetes, which have always been protagonists on the public scene, as well as in the daily activities di medical care, of the many great improvements that have been achieved in the assistance to persons with diabetes.

Diabete Italia, through the proactive interaction of all the Associations that make it up, desires to:

• Organize initiatives to safeguard the quality of life of persons with diabetes.
• Tackle prevention and the treatment of diabetes, cooperating with General Medicine.
• Promote and sustain clinical research, assistance, and basic projects with the Scientific “Diabetologic” Companies for pediatric age (SIEDP) and adult age (AMD, SID).
• Stimulate the training and awareness with regards to the illness on a general population level.
• Cooperate with the Institutions to improve the quality of assistance to persons with diabetes.
• This commitment wants to and must translate into:
• Cooperation and interaction with the Institutions to evaluate and verify the best modes to guarantee medical care and hospital facilities to persons with diabetes, in respect of the appropriateness and the technological innovation, in accordance to a process of rationalization of the needs of the individual.
• Support, through technical and ethical documents, to all efforts directed toward establishing the respect and autonomy of the person with diabetes who is inserted in the social and employment world.

Diabete Italia intends to operate with simple but efficient programs directed to the great number of persons with diabetes and, yet more, to the general population. Among its duties are the coordination on a national level of the World Diabetes Day and, every two years, the organization of the National Conference on Diabetes, with the goal of creating a common venue for encounters and discussion.

Governing bodies and Statute

The Statute of Diabete Italia establishes two bodies: the Presidency, entrusted for 5 years to a person elected by the Committee, and the Committee itself. The Committee hosts the representatives of the Scientific Companies and of the Associations. Representation of the Scientific Companies and of the Associations of Volunteer Work must in any case be equal.
